“Dr. Greene has gone to the Devil” noted Handel of his formerly good friend and fellow composer Maurice Greene. He was of course referring to the Devil Tavern in Fleet Street, London. The Apollo Musical Society, founded by Greene, met in the Apollo Room of the tavern and was frequented by composers including Bononcini, Festing, Erskine, and Oswald whose works Baroque Band will perform
