This Advent service is an adaptation of the famous Kings College Service of Lessons and Carols.  Nine lessons are read, each followed by a carol or anthem.   As is appropriate in Advent, the lessons are drawn largely from the Old Testament.

The music, as well as the lessons, reflects Advent and its note of expectation rather than Christmas and its spirit of fulfillment.

Bach, a suite of Marin Marais, Handel transcriptions, and The Second City Musick's first performance of  Autumne from Christopher Simpson's monumental set of suites on the four season.

Somewhere in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois

He's doing it again!  Just like last year, after performing with the Grant Park Orchestra, David's rushing to the airport to fly to Minneapolis so at 6:30 a.m. he can begin riding a bicycle back to Chicago as part of the Heartland AIDS Ride.  The first day's ride is approximately 100 miles!  Instead of dancing on the pedal board, he'll be dancing on the bike pedals.  

Please come to Grant Park on Saturday, July  14, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. to greet David and the approximately 1,500 other bicycle riders and the approximately 400 members of the support crew as they arrive in Chicago.

David Schrader will perform two large solo works for organ and orchestra with the Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra .  At this time it is planned that these performances will be recorded for release as part of a CD by Cedille Records.  The first two works of the CD (BARBER: Toccata Festiva, and SOWERBY: Concert Piece) were recorded in 2000.

Performances will be at Orchestra Hall in Symphony Center, 220 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago NOT IN GRANT PARK.
