Nationally know for its music and liturgy The Church of the Ascension is one of the best kept musical secrets in Chicago.  David Schrader regularly performs a prelude and postlude on Ascension's pipe organ, recently extensively refurbished by Berghaus Organ Company and now one of the finest organs in the Chicago area, or on the harpsichord.

 

 

The Ascension Choir, led by Thomas Wickman, is composed of professional singers who regularly appear throughout Chicago in such venues as Music of the Baroque, Lyric Opera, and the Chicago Symphony Chorus.  Under Tom Wickman's leadership and accompanied by David Schrader on the organ or harpsichord, Mass settings by by Mozart, Josquin, Palestrina, Byrd are performed in the splendid Victorian Gothic architecture of the Church of the Ascension.
